1. CTN lunch and lecture - London, 18 June 2007

CTN’s networking lunch and lecture on 18th June, generously sponsored by CCLA,  was a highly enjoyable event, attended by over 250 trustees from a broad range of organisations. Dame Suzi Leather delivered an excellent keynote speech - to read a transcript, just click on the attachment to this article.

Ben Harrison of the Office of the Third Sector provided an in-depth and authoritative guide to the Charities Act 2006, and the audience had ample opportunity to ask questions afterwards. A comprehensive and thought-provoking session on trusteeship and governance was given by Jolanta Lasota of the Governance Hub, and once again delegates had plenty of time to ask a series of wide-ranging questions on trusteeship, and get individual responses to their concerns. And James Bevan of CCLA offered clear and effective guidance on investment strategies for trustees.

The odd glass of wine was consumed over a very pleasant lunch, and in her keynote speech Dame Suzi Leather, after praising trustees for the wonderful work they do in society, echoed the central theme of the event – that trustees should keep on asking questions. And they did – Dame Suzi’s speech was followed by a question and answer session which covered, amongst other topics, the issue of public benefit.

Reflecting on the day, Jolanta Lasota said, “It was a very good event with positive engaged participants. I think they all appreciated the quality of the event and the format.”

Comment from those who attended: “I was able to make some useful contacts and the seminars were excellent” “very good and the speaker kept his audience’s attention throughout on what could be quite a dry subject” “What a lovely lunch!”
