We are currently undergoing a governance review of our organisation - as a student union we are finding this particularly difficult and was hoping for some advice from others as to the composition of the trustee board.
At the moment we have bad governance with our elected sabbaticals taking positions on the trustee board, however we maintain the majority as students in leading it. Under the proposed structure our governing institution wants half and half - 7/7 lay membership with students and a lay chair - we are worried that this will not enable us to be what we are a student union - run by students for students... if anyone could offer us some advice we would be much appreciative.
Thankyou very much
The University of London Union (ULU) have just completed a governance review and are currently recruiting for external Trustees. They may be able to give you some good advice - the contact is Steve Harwood, ULU, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HY, or s.harwood@ulu.lon.ac.uk
I hope this is of use to you.
